Climeworks has concluded a long-term collaboration agreement with British Airways. According to a press release from the direct air capture specialist based in Zurich, Switzerland, the British airline plans to use the technology developed by the spin-off from the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology Zurich (ETH) to decrease some of its carbon emissions. Climeworks has already formed similar agreements with SWISS and Lufthansa Group previously.
Carrie Harris, Director of Sustainability at British Airways, commented in the press release: “There is no pathway to net zero for aviation without carbon removals. We are delighted to be working with Climeworks, whose Direct Air Capture solution provides permanent, certified removals.” She added that this decision was made to help stimulate the carbon removals market and lay the groundwork for the large-scale changes needed to meet the airline’s climate goals. ce/ww
