The Greater Zurich Area Ltd (GZA) celebrates 25 years of successful regional promotion. Since its founding in 1999s, GZA has attracted innovative foreign companies, creating jobs, generating tax revenue, and enhancing the region's international competitiveness.
Over the years, GZA has expanded to include nine cantons, the Winterthur region, and the city of Zurich, forming a strong public-private partnership model. The organization has honed its strategy over time, emphasizing technology and targeting companies that provide genuine local value. Today, interconnected ecosystems in science, business, and government drive qualitative growth, positioning the Greater Zurich Area as a leading global tech hub. The GZA Ambassador Program further bolsters the region's reputation, with new honorees exemplifying its technological prowess.
From 2009 to 2021, GZA facilitated the establishment of 1,280 companies, creating over 9,400 jobs and generating CHF 647 million in tax revenue. CEO Sonja Wollkopf Walt, who significantly shaped GZA’s success, will step down in September 2024, with Lukas Huber succeeding her.
The recent anniversary event, “Innovation Global - Zukunft Regional,” brought together leaders to discuss the region’s future challenges and opportunities.
