The Zurich-based engineering and consulting company Helbling helps companies optimize the user experience (UX) of their applications. Helbling's UX designers specialize in industrial tools and business applications, improving the usability of devices, machines and systems, and thereby increasing employees’ efficiency and motivation, according to a technical article.
An intuitive user interface offers the potential for less training, fewer errors and questions and, as a result, reduced need for support, writes the article. In the case of a new user interface for a complex machine control system, Helbling significantly improved the user experience with the help of a three-level support system. The system guides the user “almost automatically to the optimal support” if they have problems or questions when using the user interface.
Helbling applies a proven process to UX design projects that in principle all UX designers follow, even with products in the consumer sector. However, because innovation cycles in the industrial environment are significantly longer, the requirements for backward compatibility are also higher.
