Zug - The construction material group Holcim is launching its own platform for construction waste recycling. With this, Holcim plans to drive forward circular construction.

The construction material giant Holcim based in Zug has launched a proprietary digital platform for recycling construction waste. According to a press release, this enables demolition materials to efficiently be distributed, processed, ground, and recycled into new building solutions. The platform called ECOCycle also aims to help with the transition to circular construction.

According to the information provided, Holcim can use this to recycle 100 percent of its construction waste. For instance, decarbonized raw materials are reused in low-carbon cement formulations and aggregates are repurposed in concrete and fillers in road construction.

Holcim’s CEO, Jan Jenisch, comments in the press release: “With our ECOCycle® technology we can build cities from cities, recycling 100 percent of construction demolition materials into new solutions, so everything gets reused and nothing gets lost.” He adds that circular construction is essential in light of a growing global population and urbanization.

Holcim is currently building a residential area in the UK with 50 percent ECOCycle aggregates. This aggregate is in turn made completely from recycled demolition material. In France, Holcim is constructing a housing complex using only recycled concrete. Furthermore, in Switzerland, the company offers a cement that is made using 20 percent recycled construction demolition materials. ko
