The shoes equipped with innovative sensor technology developed by the Zurich-based medtech firm Magnes AG have been certified as a Class IIa medical product in line with the European Medical Device Regulation (MDR), further details of which can be found in a LinkedIn post. The NUSHU smart shoes facilitate clinical-grade gait analysis for patients in real time, providing them with vibrotactile biofeedback based on their manner of walking, as detailed in a press release. These vibrations are designed to support patients while walking.
The NUSHU smart shoes use intelligent sensors and Artificial Intelligence (AI) algorithms in order to offer clinical grade gait analysis both in clinics and more remote settings, as the company writes on LinkedIn regarding the technology. This will enable clinics to offer personalized, effective disease management and rehabilitation programs. After Magnes registered the product with the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) last year, this CE certification will enable the benefits of NUSHU to be offered to patients and doctors across Europe and the USA, according to Magnes.
The CE certification represents “an important milestone for our company”, comments CEO Olgaç Ergeneman, who adds that Magnes will “continue our research and development activities to deliver innovative solutions to address the challenges faced daily by patients”.
Magnes is a spin-off from the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology in Zurich (ETH) and focuses on research and development in relation to algorithms for the analysis of human movements and embedded systems with the ability to offer biofeedback in real time. ce/gba
