The Solothurn-based firm Qumea has announced that it has entered into a partnership with Suomen Digitaalinen Tehdas (Digital Factory Finland). Accordingly, the Finnish company, which specializes in the field of digital healthcare, will be responsible for selling Quemea’s digital mobility monitoring solution for patient safety in Finland, in addition to handling customer service and installation activities. The two companies presented their solutions on November 1 at the Trade Fair for Health Technology on the campus of the Satakunta University of Applied Sciences in the Finnish city of Pori.
According to a press release, this partnership comes on the back of a pilot project carried out in an elderly care facility in the Finnish capital Helsinki, for which Qumea’s palm-sized radar sensor was successfully tested. This is fixed to the ceiling of a patient’s room to record their body movements throughout the room.
The signals from the radar sensor are interpreted on the basis of Artificial Intelligence algorithms. For example, if a patient at risk of falling tries to get out of bed, medical staff are immediately informed so that they have the chance to intervene preventively and provide support. This makes it easier to prevent bedsores as well.
According to Qumea, the market launch in Finland has now been made possible thanks to recent changes of legislation in the country. These have reduced the required personnel quotas in care facilities, which makes it “easier to adopt supportive technologies like Qumea’s AI-driven notification and alarm system”. These changes reportedly also enable care providers to allocate resources more efficiently, particularly during night shifts. ce/mm
