The Swissloop team, which is primarily composed of students from the Federal Institute of Technology in Zurich (ETH), qualified for the second round of the Hyperloop competition a year ago.
With their transport capsule Escher, the team scooped third place. Now, Swissloop has announced on Twitter that it will be participating in the third and final round of the competition.
Hyperloop is a project initiated by Elon Musk’s company SpaceX. The U.S. entrepreneur wants to revolutionize the transport system with Hyperloop.
His vision is of transport capsules travelling at 1,200 kilometres per hour through a vacuum tunnel. The project is intended for the transport of both humans and goods.
The competition is designed to facilitate the development of a suitable capsule. The capsules that qualify for the final will have chance to prove themselves on a test track in the Californian desert.
“We are delighted to have been selected to participate again,” Swissloop spokesperson Cassandra Hänggi told “Handelszeitung”.
This time, Swissloop will enter a new capsule. “This one doesn’t operate like last year’s capsule with a cold gas propulsion system, but with an electric drive,” explained Hänggi.
Swissloop intends to continue after the competition. The students want to run Swissloop as a startup or association and have already entered talks with potential partners and sponsors, according to the article.
