Chur – The Chur University of Applied Sciences (HTW Chur) has received program accreditation for its Bachelor’s degree in Photonics. The assessors were impressed by the close cooperation of the program with industry, among other aspects.

The Bachelor’s degree in Photonics at HTW Chur is now accredited with the EUR-ACE label and the ASIIN international quality seal, the university has reported in a press release. The ASIIN quality seal is awarded to study programs that fulfil “the requirements of science and professional practice in a certain discipline to a high level”. It further confirms the provision of a secure set of basic conditions for good teaching and successful learning.

The EUR-ACE label supports the establishment of an appropriate Europe-wide uniform term for the graduates in engineering. As a European brand label, it helps improve the quality of engineering study programs.

According to the HTW Chur press release, the assessors were impressed by the close cooperation of the study program with industry as well as the course content. The Photonics Bachelor’s degree was reportedly developed “in close collaboration with national and regional companies from a variety of different photonics industries”. It is a particularly practice-based course, with projects and laboratory experiments accounting for 20 percent.

HTW Chur has already received international accreditation from the Swiss Accreditation Council. This accreditation has been mandatory for universities since 2015, with separate program accreditation nonetheless still possible. Both are a testament to the quality of the institution and its courses.
