Zurich – The ETH Domain is driving digital change in Switzerland by adding new professorships in the field of computer sciences at the Federal Institute of Technology in Zurich. It will also establish a network of centres for technology transfer.

The ETH Domain will support the Swiss government’s action plan for digitalization with two specific measures, according to a government statement

The first measure will see it finance seven additional professorships in the field of computer sciences at the Federal Institute of Technology (ETH) in Zurich and the École polytechnique fédérale de Lausanne (EPFL)

The second measure will help strengthen cooperation between research and industry by establishing a national network of regional technology transfer centres in the field of advanced manufacturing, which covers digital production techniques such as 3D printing or the manufacture of materials and buildings designed with the help of computers.

The Paul Scherrer Institute (PSI) and the Federal Laboratories for Materials Science and Technology (Empa) play a particularly important role here together with partners from outside the ETH Domain.

The ETH Domain will invest invest 29 million Swiss francs in 2019 and 2020 to implement these measures.

Together with ETH Zurich, EPFL, PSI and Empa, the ETH Domain also includes the Federal Institute for Forest, Snow and Landscape Research (WSL) and the Federal Institute of Aquatic Science and Technology (Eawag).
