Lufthansa has chosen Google Cloud to be its strategic partner in developing a new planning platform. According to a Lufthansa press release, the aim of the planning platform is to make better use of flight data. Based on artificial intelligence, the system will be designed to locate transfer or rebooking options at an early stage, such as when it is forseeable that a passenger will miss his or her connecting flight.

Lufthansa subsidiary Swiss will be the first to test the new system. The main development site for the new location will also take place in Switzerland, namely in Zurich, according to Karin Müller, media spokesperson for Swiss. As inside-it.ch reports, Google has a very large office in Zurich.

According to Müller, 100 employees from Google, Swiss and the entire Lufthansa Group will participate in developing the platform. Work will start immediately. “We have set ourselves the goal of establishing a product in Zurich showing initial success after 12 months,” Müller said.
