The Hôpital Fondation Adolphe de Rothschild, a Paris-based university hospital, is joining forces with Luciole Medical, as detailed in a press release. Together, the two partners are planning to conduct joint research in order to better monitor brain function in real time.
Among other things, Luciole Medical will be contributing its technological platform to the partnership. This allows brain oxygenation parameters and cerebral blood flow, critical elements necessary for proper brain function, to be measured based on the absorbance and transmittance properties of near-infrared light. In addition, Luciole Medical will support joint research projects with its oxygenation and hemodynamic solution for intensive care and anesthesiology. These two developments have already been authorized for use in Europe, with the start-up now turning its attention towards securing market authorization in the USA.
“Luciole Medical’s next-generation devices enable clinicians to monitor a patient’s brain function in real time and make informed, quick decisions that can be vital for their survival”, comments Nicolas Engrand, deputy head of the Intensive Care Department at Hôpital Fondation Adolphe de Rothschild.
Philippe Dro, CEO of Luciole Medical, believes this partnership with the university hospital represents “an important step in Luciole Medical’s strategy to establish the company as the leading developer of innovative solutions to monitor and evaluate brain function in patients”. Two devices developed by the start-up have already received market authorization in Europe.
Luciole Medical was founded in 2007 as a spin-off from the University of Zurich and the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology in Zurich (ETH).
