Vantage Data Centers is a data center operator headquartered in California. The company is currently in the process of expanding across Europe at a cost of 2 billion US dollars, as detailed in a press release. One of the company’s European locations will be based in Winterthur in the canton of Zurich, where the construction process for a campus has already been initiated.
The three-hectare campus in Winterthur will house four data centers overall covering a total area of 37,000 square meters with a total output of 40 megawatts. The shell construction phase has already been completed. For its data centers, Vantage Data Centers relies on “highly efficient cooling with integrated free cooling and minimal water consumption”, the press release states. In addition, a photovoltaic façade and charging stations for electric vehicles are being installed on site.
Vantage Data Centers started work on its European expansion plans earlier this year. In this context, for example, it completed takeovers of various companies, including Etix Everywhere (Luxembourg) and Next Generation Data (UK). The US firm built its first campus in Offenbach near to Frankfurt, Germany, with the second European campus now under construction in Winterthur.
“Winterthur is the first location where we quite literally started on a greenfield site”, comments Wolfgang Zepf, Managing Director Vantage Switzerland, in the press release. He adds: “We are looking forward to welcoming our clients to this highly secure location offering optimal connectivity in the fall of next year”.
