The Medacta Group, headquartered in the canton of Ticino, Switzerland, has announced a partnership with THINK Surgical, a US company based in Fremont, California. The company will make available its handheld, wireless and robot-supported TMINI miniature robotic system for protheses from Medacta used in knee arthroplasty procedures. According to a press release issued by THINK Surgical, the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has now granted clearance for this.
The device from the market leader in the field of platform-independent orthopedic robots supports the implantation of GMK Sphere and GMK SpheriKA kinematic prostheses developed by Medacta. According to a press release issued by the medtech firm based in Castel San Pietro, the TMINI system from THINK Surgical in combination with these two Medacta prostheses “adds further value” to the MyKA platform from Medacta for the safe and reproducible performance of kinematic knee replacements. In addition, TMINI complements Medacta’s portfolio of technologies for knee arthroplasty procedures by offering surgical professionals a robot-assisted option for meticulous 3D computed tomography-based preoperative planning.
Founded in 1999 and active in more than 60 countries, Medacta specializes in the development, production and distribution of personalized and sustainable solutions in the area of joint replacements, sports medicine and spinal surgery. In terms of its innovations, there is a focus on minimally invasive surgical techniques and personalized solutions.
