Bubikon ZH – Professional snowboarder Nevin Galmarini won gold in the parallel giant slalom at this year’s Winter Olympic Games in South Korea. He was riding a customized snowboard designed by Oxess from the Greater Zurich Area.

Oxess produces snowboards and carving skis to suit each rider, considering data such as their height and weight. Unlike “off-the-peg” products, these customized boards do not demand riders to adapt their style, thus facilitating a more pleasurable experience.

To develop its boards, the company from the Greater Zurich Area works with a test stand at the HSR Technical University Rapperswil’s IWK Institute of Materials Technology and Plastics Processing. The stand allows the torsion and bending strength of the skis and snowboards to be measured and classified to the tiniest detail.

“I can get involved in the development of my snowboard by describing how it felt during test rides to Marcel (Marcel Brunner, Oxess director), and by saying where I think we need to improve,” commented Nevin Galmarini in a statement.

The professional snowboarder won gold in the parallel giant slalom at this year’s Winter Olympic Games in South Korea. A total of nine athletes from Italy, China, Belarus, Russia and the Czech Republic also won medals on Oxess boards at the 2018 games.
