Hylomorph has been awarded the first prize at the EHRA Innovation Awards 2019, the company reported on LinkedIn. The award was presented at this year’s conference of the European Heart Rhythm Association (EHRA) in Lisbon. Hylomorph was chosen out of more than 100 entrants to be one of six companies given the opportunity to present their innovations at the conference.
Hylomorph has developed a biocompatible membrane that encapsulates pacemakers or breast implants to prevent them crusting in the body and needing to be replaced. The startup was founded as a spin-off from the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology in Zurich (ETH) and has its headquarters in Zurich. Its backers include Wyss Zurich. In September 2018, the startup also raised 3.2 million Swiss francs in a financing round. The company intends to use this to finalize product development and conduct clinical studies required for approvals required to enter the EU and U.S. markets.
