Zurich - Zurich has been ranked among the ten best student cities in the world: the city took 8th place in the most recent version of the QS Best Student Cities Ranking. Zurich scored well, among other things, on account of its excellent universities, which attract a great number of employers, as well as the high standard of living.

Zurich has taken 8th place for the second time in a row in the QS Best Student Cities Ranking, which compares the 120 leading university cities around the world. The report is based on feedback from students and is conducted by the higher education research firm Quacquarelli Symonds (QS).

Both the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology in Zurich (ETH) and the University of Zurich (UZH) again performed very well in the international rankings, as outlined by QS in a press release. In the World University Ranking compiled by QS itself, ETH was ranked in 6th place globally, for example, while UZH came in 76th place.

The excellent universities also attract a number of companies to the city. In the employer recruitment category, students in Zurich awarded the city particularly high grades. The city came in 5th place in a global comparison here. Moreover, Zurich has improved in the desirability category.  This measures how much students would like to live in a city. For this category, Zurich was ranked in 4th place. Zurich also impressed students with its high standard of living and its proximity to nature. QS wrote that the relatively high costs of living are offset by the comparatively cheap tuition fees. In this context, QS states that it is actually cheaper to study in Zurich than in many other cities in the UK, Australia and the USA.

London tops the charts for the QS Best Student Cities Ranking this year, followed by Tokyo, Melbourne, Munich, Berlin, Montreal and Paris.
