The UK delivery service company Yodel will now be using software developed by Scandit in order to scan package bar codes. This will allow Yodel employees to complete parcel deliveries using their own cell phones. Yodel plans to further expand this partnership with Scandit.

Yodel relies on Scandit's barcode software

Up until now, Yodel has been using special devices to scan the bar codes on packages to complete deliveries. Now, however, the UK delivery service company intends to replace this device by using software installed on its employees’ personal cell phones. Yodel has selected the software developed by Scandit to achieve this.

The company, which was founded in 2009 and is based in Zurich, offered by far the best software, according to a press release issued by Scandit. The press release states that the software is compatible with more than 20,000 different cell phones, while it even functions in poor lighting conditions and can recognize broken bar codes. The app has been tested without any problems by 600 users, explained Adam Gerrard, Chief Digital Officer at Yodel. Moreover, Gerrard also commented in the press release that Yodel was “delighted with our partnership with Scandit in terms of product quality, technical support and their roadmap for future innovation.” The Scandit software has helped to speed up package deliveries.

Yodel is keen to exploit additional functionalities of the Scandit software in future, including the use of a new app for its service centers. This should allow several bar codes to be scanned at the same time, while also ensuring that delivery instructions and additional information are visible. Scandit will to this end be using Augmented Reality (AR) technology.

Samuel Müller, CEO of Scandit, is excited about collaborating further with Yodel. “We love working with an organization that embraces innovation and the business benefits to be gained from computer vision technology”, he commented in the press release.

According to a recent announcement, Samsung also relies on Scandit's barcode software
