Thayngen/Zurich/Bern - The Stiftung bilding foundation recognizes exceptional engineering achievements in construction with the Building Awards each year. This year, TTS Inova received the award in the Research and Development category. Other firms based in the Greater Zurich Area were also named as prize winners.

For this year’s Building Awards, TTS Inova was awarded the prize in the “Research and Development, Startups” category. The start-up from Thayngen in the canton of Schaffhausen was honored for its textile geothermal probe for areas with groundwater resources. This consists of an inner tube surrounded by a tight outer and elastic membrane that expands in the borehole. “Swissness at its best - reduction of CO2 emissions through the export of products for decarbonization across the world”, comments jury member Adrian Altenburger in appraising the geothermal probe, further details of which can be found in a press release covering the Building Award. “At the same time, this ensures entrepreneurial sustainability and interesting jobs”, he adds.

The Building Awards are presented on an annual basis by the Bern-based bilding – Swiss foundation for the promotion of young engineers in the construction industry to honor exceptional engineering achievements in the construction sector. This year, in addition to the prizes in the categories of Structural Engineering, Infrastructure Construction, Energy Systems and Building Technology, Young Professionals, Promotion of Young Talent in Technology, as well as the aforementioned “Research and Development, Startups” category, a Lifetime Award was presented for the first time. This went to Hermann Blumer for his influence on the contemporary timber construction industry, the effects of which can be seen beyond the borders of Europe.

Dr.Lüchinger+Meyer Bauingenieure from Zurich won the award for Structural Engineering for its conversion of the Felix Platter Hospital in Basel. The award for Infrastructure Construction went to Basler & Hofmann AG, also based in Zurich, for a slope stabilization supporting structure that it developed for a building at the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology in Zurich (ETH). The Zurich-based firm Kalt+halbeisen Ingenieubüro AG received the award for Energy Systems and Building Technology for their networking of the tuwag area in Wädenswil in the canton of Zurich. Lea Bressan from Basler & Hofmann AG won the award in the Young Professionals category, while the award for the Promotion of Young Talent in Technology went to drumrum Raumschule from Basel and Queens of Structure CH for their exhibition. ce/hs
