Medicalholodeck, the Zurich-based platform for medical collaboration and teamwork in virtual reality, is now making its applications available for augmented reality (AR). This means that Medicalholodeck can now also be used for Magic Leap 2 and Hololens 2 headsets.
According to a press release and a video from the company founded just a year ago, this software allows medical specialists to work in a fully immersive, three-dimensional, holographic space. Medical images from computed tomography (CT) scans, magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), cone-beam computed tomography (CBCT), and ultrasounds will be integrated into the visual field. As the AR glasses are transparent, they allow simultaneous communication with a patient. While they are looked at directly, the application delivers a detailed, fully three-dimensional view of the body. This means that cases can be presented, analyzed, and discussed in real time.
The specific applications include patient information and case reports in AR. These can be saved in a growing library of education modules and used for teaching. Imported patient data can be used to create medical twins for surgical teaching in virtual classrooms, which means that they can be accessed by students around the world.
