Zurich - The Swiss Federal Institute of Technology Zurich (ETH) has opened its new laboratory and research building. The Gloria Cube accommodates 16 health sciences and biomedical engineering research groups.

ETH in Switzerland has opened its newest building. According to a press release from ETH, Health Sciences and Biomedical Engineering have moved into the Gloria Cube. Specifically, 16 research groups from Human Movement Science and Sport, Rehabilitation and Biomedical Engineering as well as application-oriented, translational research are located in the new laboratory and research building.

The new building at Gloriarank links the ETH campus to the neighboring homes of the Fluntern district through uninterrupted paths and a green space. The eight-storey building is also near to the University of Zurich and the University Hospital Zurich, “making it a natural destination for education, research and translation in the field of health and medicine” according to ETH. A technology platform for human medical research established at the Gloria Cube will support the transfer of research results into medical applications.

The press release mentions the development of new micro-active ingredient carriers and new training methods to improve athletic performance and health as examples of the research that will be housed at the Gloria Cube in future. Another project is researching the connection between pupil size and stress or mental health in general. The Gloria Cube has six seminar rooms and a learning center for educational purposes. At the Skills Lab @ETH, medical students can teach each other basic medical skills. ce/hs
