Dübendorf/Santa Monica - Loft Dynamics has secured US qualification for its flight simulator powered by Virtual Reality (VR) technology. The simulator has also been given the green light by the European Aviation Safety Agency.

Loft Dynamics from Dübendorf in the canton of Zurich in Switzerland has secured US clearance for its VR simulator for training pilots from the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA), further details of which can be found in a press release. It is therefore the first VR simulator to receive FFA qualification. This is a crucial step in bringing advanced flight simulation technologies to pilots and operators across the USA in light of the increasing demand for pilots. The FAA qualification also cements the role of virtual reality technologies in the future of pilot training in the USA. Outside of the USA, Loft Dynamics is the first and only VR simulator to be approved by the European Aviation Safety Agency (EASA). “The FAA’s and EASA’s unprecedented qualifications of our technology reinforce the safety and fidelity of VR for pilot training”, comments Fabi Riesen, founder and CEO of Loft Dynamics, in the press release.

The FAA evaluated Loft Dynamics’ VR simulator using the Airbus-certified H125 VR at Marshall University in Huntington in the US State of West Virginia. The H125 VR simulator features a full-size virtual replica cockpit, a panoramic 360-degree view, and flight modeling that accurately simulates flight images, motion, and scenarios.

The FAA has installed Loft Dynamics simulators at its William J. Hughes Technical Center (WHTC) in Atlantic City in the US State of New Jersey. The FAA uses the simulator to conduct vertical flight safety research and to train hundreds of test pilots on the simulator, as the press release explains. Loft Dynamics, which recently opened its North American headquarters in Santa Monica, California, develops both flight simulators and special vertical take-off and landing (VTOL) simulations for helicopters. ce/gba
