Schlieren-based HeiQ has been collaborating closely with Odlo, located in Hünenberg in the canton of Zug, for several years. Now, the two companies have developed HeiQ Pure SPQR, an odour control technology that will be engineered into Odlo’s spring/summer 2020 collection of functional performance clothing, according to a HeiQ statement.
The new technology controls three types of odour build-up. First, it impairs the metabolism of bacteria, a process that turns odourless sweat into body odour. This is due to the second action, a bio-based amino sugar polymer, which anchors silver-ions to amplify their performance and durability. Third, the amino sugar polymer creates a durable barrier film around the fibre, which prevents odour compounds from sticking on the textiles.
Tests have shown that HeiQ Pure SPQR is far better than any other technology on the market today with respect to odour control. It is also derived from renewable and recycled sources.
“Once again with Odlo we are one step ahead of our competitors in providing a better and more sustainable odour control solution,” said Carlo Centonze, co-founder and CEO of HeiQ.
A spin-off of the Federal Institute of Technology (ETH) in Zurich, HeiQ is headquartered in the IJZ innovation and startup centre and is a member of Start Smart Schlieren.
