Lausanne - In the IMD World Competitiveness Ranking, Switzerland has fallen one place in comparison with 2022 but is still ranked third overall. Switzerland remains in top spot for government efficiency and infrastructure and has improved in terms of economic performance.
University of Zurich to lead five major research projects
Zurich/Bern - The University of Zurich (UZH) has scored highly in connection with the roadmap for research infrastructures over the next four years. Five of the major projects proposed by UZH received the top A grade in the evaluation and have the best chance of being realized.

Klepsydra awarded ESA contract
Volketswil - Klepsydra will develop high-performance and radiation-hardened onboard capabilities on the basis of Artificial Intelligence (AI) for the European Space Agency (ESA), which could, for example, be used in landing modules and deep space robotics. For this, Klepsydra has been awarded a contract worth 175,000 euros.
Zurich is the largest climber among global start-up ecosystems
Zurich - The Greater Zurich Area made the greatest leap up the rankings in the Global Startup Ecosystem Report 2023. The region’s start-up ecosystem improved by ten places versus the previous year to finish in 36th position. The region scored particularly well for exits: this metric recorded an increase of +300 percent.
Further training to create automated lab specialists
Zurich/Hombrechtikon - A new further training program aims to create specialists in the project management of automated laboratories. It has been developed for professionals by House of Lab Science and the Kalaidos University of Applied Sciences and lasts two semesters.
Saiba Animal Health issues license to Boehringer Ingelheim
Pfäffikon/Ingelheim - German pharmaceutical company Boehringer Ingelheim has secured an exclusive license for a Saiba Animal Health product candidate. This is the second license agreement that Saiba, based in Pfäffikon in the canton of Schwyz, has executed this year.
Zug destined to become a blockchain research center
Zug/Lucerne - Crypto Valley in the canton of Zug is being developed as an international center for blockchain research. The cantonal government of Zug is to contribute a total of 39.35 million Swiss francs to the Blockchain Zug – Joint Research Initiative of the University of Lucerne and Lucerne University of Applied Sciences and Arts.
CSEM achieves successful results
Neuchâtel - The Swiss Center for Electronics and Microtechnology (CSEM) generated more than 100 million Swiss francs in sales in 2022. It also launched two start-up companies and registered 26 new patents in the year under review. Andreas Rickenbacher is the new Chairman of the Board of Directors.
