Venture Kick to award 5.5 million Swiss francs
Schlieren ZH – For 2021, Venture Kick has a total budget of 5.5 million francs to be awarded to startup projects. This represents a year-on-year increase of 10 percent. Support will be given to 86 new innovative projects in 2021.
Record number of ETH spin-offs
In 2020, 34 spin-offs were founded at ETH Zurich, despite the coronavirus crisis. This is a new record. Many operate in the areas of artificial intelligence and sustainability. ETH spin-offs raised more than 400 million Swiss francs in capital overall.
AI helps compute turbulence
The modelling and simulation of turbulent flows is crucial for designing cars or predicting the weather. ETH Zurich has now successfully applied artificial intelligence to compute turbulence. This was done on the supercomputer “Piz Daint”.
Arvelle Therapeutics agrees sale
Zug - Arvelle Therapeutics is being taken over by the Italian firm Angelini Pharma for a price of 960 million US dollars. The start-up is developing an epilepsy drug. Angelini Pharma intends to open an affiliate in Switzerland by the end of 2022.  
Staffcloud used to organize vaccination personnel
Glattbrugg ZH – The Staffcloud software developed by Smartbridge is being used to support vaccination rollout. The software allows staff deployment to be planned, managed and budgeted across three Swiss cantons and Germany’s largest federal state.  
RAD offering new building module for cancer centers
Lugano - RAD Technology Medical Systems is expanding its portfolio of modular building systems for radiation therapy. The units have been designed for the latest models of linear accelerators. This means that patients can be treated just one month following the start of construction.
