Geneva - Switzerland has taken first place in the World Intellectual Property Organization’s Global Innovation Index 2024 for the 14th time in a row. It takes pole position for scientific, technological, and creative services.
Climeworks gains British Airways as customer

UZH develops new compact gene scissor
Zurich - A research team led by the University of Zurich (UZH) has developed a new and significantly smaller gene scissor than CRISPR-Cas by focusing on the TnpB protein instead. By leveraging the benefits of protein engineering and Artificial Intelligence algorithms, the researchers can edit DNA much more efficiently and could in future treat gene defects in a targeted manner.
SR Technics opens facility for Airbus engines at Zurich Airport
Kloten/East Hartford - SR Technics, based in Kloten in the Swiss canton of Zurich, is now an official member of the global network for the maintenance of Pratt & Whitney geared turbofan engines. It has celebrated the official opening of both a workshop – for the disassembly, assembly and testing of these engines for the Airbus A320neo series – and Test Cell 2. The facility will reportedly create 400 jobs.
SWISS and SBB expand Air Rail partnership
Kloten/Bern - The airline SWISS and the Swiss federal railway company SBB are extending their collaboration. This was previously limited to a five-year period and is now being lengthened indefinitely. It was designed to promote the development of links between railways and air travel. Four destinations in the Greater Zurich Area are being added.
Investors give $11 million to ImmunOs Therapeutics
Schlieren - ImmunOs Therapeutics has closed a Series C financing round of €11 million. The proceeds will enable the biotech company to complete its ongoing clinical trial of a multifunctional immunotherapy agent for the treatment of advanced solid tumors.
Empa and EPFL join forces to develop next-generation drones
Dübendorf/Lausanne - The Swiss Federal Laboratories for Materials Science and Technology (Empa) and the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology Lausanne (EPFL) are cooperating on the development of next-generation drones. Empa researcher Mirko Kovac has been appointed as Professor of Sustainability Robotics at EPFL.
